Coolsculpting For Love Handles

Love handles, despite their name, are anything but lovely. The term refers to the pockets of fat that hang from the sides of the waistline. Also known as "muffin-top," love handles are usually seen as aesthetically unappealing, and can be difficult to combat with exercise and diet alone. Fortunately, there is Coolsculpting, a non-invasive treatment that destroys fat cells with cold temperatures. Our doctor, a certified dermatologic surgeon, is happy to offer CoolSculpting in his Beverly Hills office.

Coolsculpting is a non-surgical fat loss treatment that literally freezes fat cells under the skin. This triggers the apoptotic (cell-death) pathway in the fat tissue, forcing the body to remove it during its natural metabolic processes. As such, CooSculpting is a gradual procedure, and it will take several months to see its full effects; however, the risks associated with Coolsculpting are minimal to none, making the gradual appearance of the results worth the wait. The procedure also requires no anesthesia, and patients can read or sleep during the duration of treatment (usually between one and two hours).

CoolSculpting is not a treatment for obesity and cannot be used as a substitute for proper diet and exercise. Fat loss treatments are naturally impermanent, and must be maintained by adherence to a healthy and active lifestyle. CoolSculpting is designed for people who are satisfied with their physique, but have small areas of fat that exercise cannot seem to get rid of ― such as the love handles. Side effects of CoolSculpting generally include redness and a brief numbing sensation. If you have particularly sensitive skin, talk to our doctor, as there may be ways to reduce the feeling of cold in the targeted treatment area. The specific temperatures used in CoolSculpting target only fat cells, therefore treatment will not damage the skin or any of the underlying nerves or muscles.

CoolSculpting, while versatile, is restricted to areas of the body where fat deposits can be reasonably drawn out; these generally include the stomach area, waist, arms, and thighs. This is due to the mechanism by which CoolSculpting is performed – fatty areas are secured between clamps that will deliver the cold treatment. By drawing the skin away from the body, the surface area is maximized, increasing treatment effectiveness, and also preventing any cold temperatures from disturbing the core organs.
